From the Words of our Families

We know that we stand behind our programs, but we want to uplift the voices of those in our community who support us as well.

“a second family”

EPH feels like a second family. It’s down the street, we see kids and staff around the neighborhood and have created friendships that last well beyond our time there!!

“the absolute best place”

I can't say enough about EPH! We knew that it would be the right place for our family from the first visit. Every staff member was caring and welcoming and we could feel and see the family atmosphere in the building. Ramón began at the earliest possible age and has thrived. He has grown in every way and has always been excited to go to school! I know that the staff loves him, knows him, supports him, and takes care of him. And they do the same for our family as a whole. As a parent I have felt so supported and loved by the amazing EPH staff. This is a very special place and the absolute best place my son could have spent learning and growing over these years.

“we are so grateful”

When our family moved to Somerville from Seattle back in 2014, we did not know Boston at all, and had no family or friends here. When we started seeking out childcare for our then 2 1/2 year old son, we were pretty happy to find the Elizabeth Peabody House, right around the corner. Sheri Rios, the preschool director at that time, introduced us to Ms Yolanda and others at EPH and helped us enroll Dexter in preschool. It was close by, affordable, and provided Dexter with a whole new group of friends he didn't have before. From potty training through to getting ready for Kindergarten at East Somerville Community School, EPH has been there for Dexter. We remember a great birthday party where everyone in the Purple Room marched over to the wading pool in Foss Park, where Dexter's dad got "dunked" over and over again by Dexter and his friends on a sunny July afternoon. Over the years, it was great to see Dexter getting ahead in his reading skills, and getting more outdoor time with friends as he grew up. And the summer parties with a real dunk tank were pretty special too!

Once our son graduated from preschool, he returned to EPH for afterschool and summer camp, keeping some familiar faces in his life as he adapted to public school. He immediately loved summer camp weeks at Everwood - even the long bus rides where there would be songs sung and afternoon naps. In response to the 2020 pandemic when all of Somerville schools closed their doors, EPH stepped up and made it possible to provide a daytime space for Dexter to do his "Zoom school". We are so grateful for the long and continued presence of EPH in our community and hope that there will be another 125 years to come!

“i cannot say enough”

When my granddaughter first started at EPH, I could only afford 3 days per week, as I couldn't afford to send her full time, even though it was something I really wanted for her. Because she was only going 3 days per week she missed out on a lot and consistency was lacking.

I call her my guardian angel, Ms. Sheri, saw my need and went on a mission to help me and any other family who were struggling like me. It took a while, however, she never gave up and because of her persistence and her commitment, my granddaughter got the chance to attend EPH full time. This has changed her life and our life tremendously. Kaeci was withdrawn, shy and not a people person; my granddaughter today is a mouth piece, smart driven, loves to share, care for others and listens to instructions.

The teachers at EPH go above and beyond their call of duty for each and every one of these kids and this is an important part in the process of learning. On birthdays all the children sing Happy Birthday to mommy, daddy or grandparents, whomever is having a birthday, just a truly special place for our young ones to start schooling.

I cannot say enough about the teachers at EPH because of their passion, patience, drive, attention and love for what they do and because they don't just do what is required but they do whatever it takes to make our children feel special and important and that is essential for my granddaughter as she shows it when she comes home. My appreciation for EPH goes beyond the student teacher, it is more family.

“my daughter loves going to school”

What I love about EPH is that the teachers and staff have good energy, communicate with the kids very well. My daughter learned a lot of good stuffs like being independent, choice of words and art work etc. I was worried when EPH was to resume after the lockdown but later got confidence in all they did in preventing the spread of COVID in the school environment. My daughter loves going to school and won’t stop mentioning how her teacher does things in a certain way. And thanks to all EPH staff for all they did making our kids safe in school.
